House Passes Payroll Tax Cut Extension, Clock Ticking for Democrats to Act

Eight days ago President Obama urged Congress to extend a payroll tax cut for middle class families and unemployment benefits before the end of the year. “A year ago at this time, both parties came together to cut payroll taxes for the typical American family by about $1,000,” Obama said. “But as soon as this year ends, so does that tax cut. If Congress fails to renew this tax cut before then, that same family will see a tax hike of about $1,000 a year.” Of course he also attempted to preemptively blame Republicans for failing to extend the tax…

Obama Concedes, Fixing Economy "Probably Takes More Than One President"

In a recent 60 Minutes interview President Obama was asked if he overpromised when selling his economic policies impact or underestimated how difficult it would be to fix the economy. “I didn’t overpromise. And I didn’t underestimate how tough this was gonna be,” Obama said. “I always believed this was a long term project. . . It was gonna take more than a year. It was gonna take more than two years. It was gonna take more than one term. Probably takes more than one president.” Oh really? Because we seem to remember a certain 2009 interview when, in a…

Osawatomie Reveals Obama Has Fully Forgotten His Concern Over Deficits

“Here, finally, is the Barack Obama many of us thought we had elected in 2008.” – Robert Reich, Secretary of Labor under Bill Clinton To many liberals that might have been true. They finally found their champion to ensure the equality of outcomes (not, as Obama would have you believe, the equality of opportunity) that comes from central economic planning. “Of course, those productive investments cost money,” Obama said. “They’re not free. And so we’ve also paid for these investments by asking everybody to pay their fair share.” But is that the President Obama that the rest of us elected?…

Obama's Green-Car Gambit the Latest Stimulus Failure

National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation is one of my absolute favorite holiday movies. Rare is the Christmas movie that is funny without being childish and sentimental without being saccharine. In one of my favorite scenes, Clark, who wants nothing more than to have an old fashioned family Christmas, finally gets the piece of mail he’s been literally going crazy over. It was supposed to be his year-end bonus, the money he desperately needed to afford the down-payment for a pool he had already made. Instead of a check, Clark opens the envelope to find that it’s a membership to the Jelly…

NLRB Strong Arm Tactics Work, Deal Blow to Free Markets

What started with a bang ended with a whimper as the National Labor Relations Board officially dropped its case against Boeing on Friday. Sadly, it can hardly be considered a win for free market conservatives. The suit was dropped only after Boeing reached a deal with the Machinists Union to extend the contracts of workers for four years. ABC News reports: “If the deal is ratified by its members next week, the union said it would drop the unfair labor practice suit against Boeing that is currently pending before the National Labor Relations Board. . . ‘It secures a strong…

The Dangerous Rhetoric of Obama's Latest "Greatest Speech Ever"

“It was a masterpiece to go down in history along with Bryan’s “Cross of Gold” and Kennedy’s about his Catholicism,” the New York Times’ Nicholas Kristoff praising President Obama’s “A More Perfect Union” delivered in March, 2008 “The speech was amazing. From a perspective of delivery, it may have been the best speech every made by one of the great orators of all time.” – Editorial, Jacksonville Daily News, speaking of President Obama’s 2008 acceptance speech “I guarantee: they’ll be teaching this one in rhetoric classes. It was that good. My gloss won’t do it justice. Yes, I’m having a…

IMF Involvement in Euro Bailout Spells Heavy Costs for US Taxpayers

President Obama is known for being generous (with other people’s money). It’s little wonder then that he went all out on a gift for Europe. No doubt, it was a struggle to pick something out. After all, what do you get for a continent that needs everything? A bottle of wine? No, they’re pretty good at making that on their own. A Starbucks gift card? Meh, too generic. Oh I know, how about a $100 billion bailout! Although very little was heard about it at the time, Rep. Barney Frank slipped a provision into a war supplemental bill that gave…

Obamacare 'Bomb' Goes Off – Health Care Costs Set to Explode

Not many would cheer a bomb exploding. And why would they? Bombs are meant to destroy things. Their only positive purpose is to blow up something old, decrepit, or unused to make way for something better. Nevertheless, some liberals are cheering the weekend’s explosion of a “bomb” buried deep in Obamacare. In a widely read article for Forbes, Rick Ungar argues: “The provision of the law, called the medical loss ratio . . . is the true ‘bomb’ contained in Obamacare and the one item that will have more impact on the future of how medical care is paid for…
